Many cities seek to create lasting change when they host a global event, be it a sporting, cultural or business event. This could include new and environmentally friendly facilities and urban planning, accelerated transport infrastructure investments, and increased citizen participation in activities linked to the event. Cities may seek to provide sports-friendly urban development and facilities, or a vibrant cultural scene and night economy, among other lasting benefits for residents and firms. As cities embark on the bidding, planning and hosting of such events, a clear vision for the legacy of that event helps to engage the many public and private stakeholders around the common goals to achieving lasting impact. This session will share best practices and examples from prior and future host cities, along with many OECD tools for cities.
